Diverging Diamond Interchange IS A GEM

December 10, 2019 – Viera is home to the Space Coast’s first Interstate 95 diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at Viera Boulevard.

These types of interchanges are catching on around the country. 109 DDIs are currently in operation, 33 under construction, and another 153 either planned or proposed because of statistics like these:

Diverging Diamond Interchanges, according to studies by the Missouri Department of Transportation:

Reduced fatal crashes by at least 55%

Reduced total crashes by roughly 40%

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration:

For higher traffic volumes, the DDI designs reduced delays by 15-60% and

increased throughput by 10-30%
