Port Canaveral: INVESTMENT IN 2020
December 19, 2019 – With Port Canaveral only 25 minutes away from Viera, there are many exciting opportunities. The Port is constantly growing and improving, with $300 million in investment slated for 2020, which is also a healthy indicator for our local economy.
Here are some of the projects underway at Port Canaveral for 2020:
- $163 million Cruise Terminal 3 project to house the Carnival Mardi Gras ship, the newest and largest in the company’s fleet; estimated completion by mid-May, operational by October
- $46 million investment to update the terminals used by Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line
- Expansion of Cruise Terminal 5 to allow for larger ships, estimated at $2 million.
- $18 million project at Cargo Berth 8 to accommodate heavier cargo, including space and rocket business
- $30 million to begin to rebuild North Cargo Piers 3 and 4 to meet future demands. The total cost will be more than $70 million
Port Canaveral has a major economic impact on the Space Coast of $3.9 billion, and is responsible for 32,650 jobs and $1.3 billion in wages. With annual cruise line embarkations of more than 2 million, the Port racks up 16% of total U.S. passenger embarkations.
