World-Champion Surfers Love It Here

February 7, 2022 –  Kelly Slater, a life-long Space Coast native and a surfing legend for 30 years, has done it again. The 11-time World Champion has won the Billabong Pro Pipeline in Hawaii, a slightly early birthday present to help him celebrate with 50 candles on his cake. His birthday is February 11 if you want to send him a card.

Competing against athletes who weren’t even born when Slater was already a champion, Slater pulled off a near perfect score of 18.77 out of a possible 20.  This marks his 56th victory on the World Surf League Championship Tour.

Viera congratulates our local hero on this amazing performance. It’s well known that the conditions for surfing in Brevard County are considered to be the best anywhere on the East Coast of the United States, and when you combine that with the beautiful weather we enjoy year-round, it’s no wonder that world-class athletes find this a great place to train, play and live.

Now, you may not be planning to be one of the best surfers in the world when you reach your fifth decade, but Slater has proved that such a feat is possible.

Difficult, yes. Awe-inspiring, yes.  But possible— if you are Kelly Slater.

Centrally coastal and conveniently master-planned, Viera is just 15 minutes to 72 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, 25 minutes to Port Canaveral and 1 hour to world-class Orlando theme parks.
