VHS Band Member to Compete in International Symposium

July 14, 2023 – Nick Grey, a 17 year old French Horn player from Viera High School, will compete as a finalist in the International Horn Symposium Youth Solo Competition to be held in Montréal the last week of July. Grey was selected after advancing through a preliminary round in which a recording of standard repertoire was used to select a small group of finalists. This is Nick’s second time competing as a soloist on the international level as he competed in the same competition a year prior earning second place overall.

Grey’s other achievements this year include Music for All’s 2023 Honor Band of America, one of the finest scholastic ensembles in America. Grey was selected by audition to rehearse and perform in concert as part of the Music for All National Festival, March 31-April 2 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Grey was also one of the 11 Viera High band members selected to the All-State Ensemble, which performed in January 2023 during the Florida Music Educators Conference. The Florida All-State Ensembles consist of selected band, orchestra and chorus members from around the state. Auditions take months to prepare for and took part in September, where they were then sent off to a group of judges who made the selections.
