A Pink Homecoming
October 22, 2021 – They showed up in pink to cheer the Viera Hawks to a Homecoming victory, while honoring breast cancer fighters and survivors.
There was plenty going on, with the Homecoming Court introduced at halftime, impressive passes leading to touchdowns on the field and the Viera Hawks Marching Band performing their precision Bon Jovi moves, but perhaps the most heartwarming sight was the sea of pink in the stands.October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. For the past 30 years, National Breast Cancer Foundation has supported women and their families by helping them get access to the education, screening and support they need. By wearing pink, Viera Hawks supporters in the stands and on the field showed their support of this cause.
Todd Pokrywa, President of The Viera Company, is an avid supporter, raising tens of thousands of dollars in donations for breast cancer research and education over the years. He also wears pink every day in October to show his support. It is the sixth year that Pokrywa has participated in Real Men Wear Pink. Pokrywa is poised to set a new fundraising record.
“Representing a major stakeholder on the Space Coast, I am keenly interested in quality of life and the health and welfare of those living and working in our community,” Mr. Pokrywa said. “In the United States this year, more than 287,500 of our daughters, wives, mothers, sisters, and friends will be diagnosed with breast cancer, along with 2,600 men. In 2021, 44,100 women and men are expected to die from the disease nationwide.”
The Viera Company has also been a proud many-year sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walks, where participants raise money by how far they walk.
“No contribution is too small,” Pokrywa said.
