August 09, 2021 – Viera is centrally located and within easy reach of three international airports: Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) – each about an hour’s drive from the community—and Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) which is less than half an hour away. MLB is an economic driver for the region. Here are a few facts:

 

MELBOURNE ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

  • Adds $3 billion a year to the local economy
  • 20,000 people on the airport campus any given day

Recent Improvements:

  • The airport tower has since been rebuilt, all runways were completely rebuilt, including its largest 10,181-foot runway, a parallel 6000-foot runway, and a general aviation aircraft runway that is 3000 feet.

Future Improvements:

  • The terminal renovation, a $61 million improvement project will add 80,000 square feet to the existing space, slated to open the first week of March 2022.

Blue-Chip Aerospace at MLB:

  • Northrop Grumman – employs about 5,000 employees on projects such as the B-21 Raider, the next generation of a stealth bomber.
    Embraer Executive Jets – produces the best-selling business jet in the world, the Phenom, as well as the larger Praetor. The company moved its headquarters to MLB and invested millions in the property.

Commercial Traffic:

  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Allegiant
  • TUI (Touristik Union International- Europe’s largest tour operator) will fly 787s from nine different destinations in the U.K.
