March 26, 2024 – It’s every athlete’s dream to test their skills against the best, and when that goal can be realized while raising money for a great cause it can only be described as “a perfect moment”.  Todd Pokrywa, president of the Viera Company, was lucky enough to have just such a moment earlier this month.

“I had an incredible weekend traveling from Viera on Florida’s Space Coast to the Chelsea Piers Sky Rink on Saturday, March 2 to support breast cancer awareness,” said Pokrywa.

The Northern Roots Hockey Tournament at Chelsea Piers in New York City found Pokrywa competing against former National Hockey League players, in an event that raised $60,000 for the iRise Above Cancer Foundation.

“I am honored to have had the experience to play on Team New Zealand alongside National Hockey League Alumni Bernie Nicholls, as well as a fantastic and welcoming group of guys including Captain John Haar, James Pizzitola, Alex Panlilio, Jack Lalime, Brian Markovich and Josh Choiniere,” said Pokrywa.

“We dominated the tournament with a 7-0 record, and I even managed to contribute with a goal and a couple of assists. It was also a thrill to play against other NHL Alumni such as Dmitri Khirstich, Kevin Westgarth, Mike Bullard, Terry Virtue, Morris Lukowich, Doug Crossman, and Greg Meredith.”

The iRise Above Cancer Foundation supports young women impacted by breast cancer.

“Many thanks to Northern Roots’ Boe Leslie for the invitation to participate and so I could be part of the effort to support this meaningful cause,” said Pokrywa. “Let’s continue to empower and inspire others to rise above these difficult challenges and create a brighter future together!”

The Viera Company thanks all the athletes who took time to raise money for this worthy cause and would like to congratulate Todd Pokrywa on his effort. Scoring a goal in hockey is no easy feat and doing so while professionals are trying to stop you—that sounds like a perfect moment to us.
