BAC Receives Local and National Attention

June 12, 2023 – Recently BAC. a Brevard organization providing life enrichment opportunities to those with significant disabilities, received well-deserved recognition, both locally and nationally.

BAC was named one of the top 5 businesses in this year’s Best of Brevard Community Choice Awards by Florida Today. BAC was nominated in two categories, “Best Places to Work” and “Best Non-Profit/Charity Organization”. The organization was selected from more than 420 businesses/organizations.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our commitment to providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities,” said Amar Patel, President and CEO of BAC. “Our inclusion in the top five is a testament to the incredible support we have received from our community. Recognitions such as these are a great source of appreciation for our dedicated staff and helps affirm that their work has a significant impact.”

Also in May a BAC employee, Telisha Griffin, received national recognition for her job skills.  SourceAmerica®, an AbilityOne® authorized enterprise that creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities, announced Griffin the winner of its William M. Usdane Award in honor of her outstanding achievement and exceptional character at its annual Xforce conference in Anaheim, California.

Telisha Griffin

One of Telisha Griffin’s co-workers describes her as “a smile that can light up a room.” As a cook at the dining facility at Patrick Space Force Base, Griffin’s high energy and warm personality have made her a favorite with soldiers on the base. She says she always wants to brighten up their day, especially those who are far from home. Griffin quickly moved up in her position due to her strong work ethic and cooking skills.

The SourceAmerica achievement awards recognize nonprofits, employees, and business partners for their exceptional work ethic, success, and leadership in advancing inclusion for people with disabilities. These awards highlight successes in disability employment, as approximately 60 percent of working-age people with disabilities are currently unemployed.

“People with disabilities bring unique insights and talents to the nation’s workforce,” said Richard Belden, SourceAmerica president and chief executive officer. “SourceAmerica takes pride in celebrating the achievements of these award winners who have demonstrated leadership, dedication, and the passion to inspire others to work towards a more inclusive workforce.”

Viera is proud to be a member of a community where organizations like BAC strive to provide meaningful work experiences to people of all abilities. Congratulations to BAC and to Telisha Griffin. Keep up the excellent work!
