June 1, 2020 — Viera High School has once again excelled internationally with two teams in the 2020 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.
One Viera High School team finished ninth in the world in the category: Problem #2 Net Working Division III.
A second Viera High School team finished fiftieth in Problem #3 Classics…The Effective Detective Division III.
The first team was Ryan Luciani, Shannon Lee, Reese Boucher, Jessica Caiati, Zoe Griffin, Haylee Johnson, and Taylor Johnson.
The second team was Taylor Weiss, Kayla Beigh, Sofia Cirilli, Stephanie Paquet, and Carolyn Sylvan.
Their coach for the past two years has been Dr. Steven Hicks, a teacher in Viera High School’s Academy of Communication and Design.
“I am so proud of both teams!” Hicks said, ” To finish ninth in any WORLD competition is an amazing feat, to do so under these conditions (COVID-19) is nothing short of spectacular. The team that finished fiftieth was in a larger group of competitors and I consider that placement equally as impressive.”
Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment. Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and recognize and explore their true potential.
