July 13, 2020 – L3 Harris CEO Bill Brown speaking of the L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation merger said: “This was the right combination at the right time.”
An aerospace and defense giant, L3Harris (after the merger of L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation) is currently ranked number 250 on the Fortune 500 list of the nation’s largest companies (based on annual revenue). L3Harris is the third largest employer in Brevard
County behind the Brevard County School Board and Health First. L3 Technology has continued to expand and currently employs more than 7600 people on the Space Coast. Brown expects local employment to increase by 100 employees in the coming year. Two of the company’s primary business segments are headquartered in Brevard County, Florida: integrated mission systems & space and airborne systems.
In response to the coronavirus, in April L3Harris began accelerated payments to small-business suppliers as a support action. “Accelerating payments reflects our commitment to support small businesses, the aerospace and defense supply chain, and the vital U.S. defense industrial base’” said Brown.
About half of L3Harris employees are currently working remotely because of the pandemic. For employees working onsite, the company has instituted social distancing arrangements, cancelled travel and events, initiated health screening in some facilities and or staggered work shifts and taken other measures including stringent cleaning procedures. Beyond that, L3Harris has committed to helping the communities in which it has a presence, including supplying PPE, increasing donations to organizations such as United Way, and providing special assistance to employees experiencing hardship.
