In the Zoo, the Mighty Zoo, the Lion Sleeps Tonight

April 29, 2022 – Starting on Sunday, May 1, a visit to the Brevard Zoo will include the addition of the “three lion brothers”, who just arrived from Naples.  You can see them in the Wild Florida loop for now until their new digs are completed as part of Expedition Africa.

Ruaha, Chobe and Karoo were the first lion cubs to be born at the Naples Zoo in more than 30 years. Mom Shani and her mate Masamba were matched by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP), which recommends animal pairings to ensure healthy, genetically diverse residents in AZA-accredited zoos.  Pairing animals is a safeguard against the extinction of their species.

The lion bros have been eagerly anticipated by Brevard Zoo patrons and everyone is roaring to go for the grand unveiling.  It’s an achievement where the zoo can really show their pride.
