Central Florida Contracts Worth $1B

Sep 4, 2018— The Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. won three government contracts on Aug. 30 for more than $1 billion total bringing work to Orlando and the Space Coast.

Boeing landed an $805.3 million contract from the U.S. Navy to design, develop, test and deliver four MQ-25A unmanned air vehicles — the Stingray, an aerial refueling system for various fighter jets. A piece of the six-year contract will take place in Palm Bay.

Lockheed Martin won a hefty U.S. Navy 3-year contract for its continued F-35 stealth fighter jet work, a $250.4 million contract for modifications on an F-35 Lightning II. Work will take place in more than 40 locations, including Orlando and Melbourne.

Lockheed Martin also won a $12.4 million 3-year contract from the U.S. Army for refurbishment support services for the Apache attack helicopter. All work will take place in Orlando.

Military contracts contribute to the local economy in the form of jobs and subcontractor opportunities. The region snags about $4 billion in government contracts each year.
