November 3, 2025 – Bird watchers are grabbing binoculars and cameras with long lenses because it’s the season for avian movement. Viera is in Brevard County, which lies along the renowned Atlantic Flyway, making it a critical corridor for migration. Local watchers note that the funneling effect of the coast and favorable habitats such as wetlands provide both a route and stopover for many species.
According to the live monitoring dashboard from BirdCast, tens of thousands of birds were in flight over the area overnight, traveling southward at roughly 16 mph and at altitudes around 700 feet. By Oct 23, the site estimated that 784,000 birds had crossed Brevard.

A great place to get an eyeful of the sky full is at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, commonly referred to as the Viera Wetlands, 10001 N Wickham Road. But be aware that the wetlands will be closed on November 4th and November 5th due to maintenance. The county intends to reopen to the public on the following day, November 6th.
