The 98-bed Viera Hospital will expand by adding at least 20 inpatient beds. Half of the previously undeveloped fifth floor of Viera Hospital remains available for expansion, after last year’s opening of Health First’s 14-bed labor and delivery unit on that floor.
“We’ve identified capacity for at least an additional 20 inpatient beds on that floor, and we are looking to quickly operationalize those beds,” said Lance Skelly, Health First’s system director for public and media relations. “The added capacity will help ease pressure on the emergency department, where patients have at times faced delays waiting for inpatient beds.”
Health First plans to also expand its operating suite by adding two operating rooms to the current six; opening a new endoscopy suite; making equipment upgrades that improve access for cardiac patients; and adding another computed tomography or CT scanner at its Medical Plaza next to Viera Hospital.
Viera Hospital is located in the heart of the Viera community, giving residents a excellent health option, right in their own backyard.
