May 6, 2019—Northrop Grumman Corp. was awarded a one-year, $38.7 million contract by the U.S. Navy to provide software support for its E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. Most of the work will be performed in Melbourne, where Northrop Grumman has more than 3,000 workers.
March 15, 2019—New STEM degree programs to help boost employment are coming to Florida Tech and UCF. In 2019, the University of Central Florida and Florida Institute of Technology are launching two new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs to help boost talent production.
March 14, 2019—Soon we’ll see yet another new hotel going up in Viera’s Town Center. The hotel will have 118 suites, and like the 116-room Fairfield Inn & Suites that opened up in May 2018, it is being developed by the Sycamore Investment Group which also owns and operates the Hampton Inn in Viera.

Three firms with a big Space Coast presence are big winners with nine defense industry contracts totaling more than $280 million announced in the timeframe of Dec. 10-17, 2018, capping what is already described as a banner year.

October 15, 2018 – Harris Corporation and L3 Technologies, Inc. have agreed to combine in an all stock merger of equals to create a global defense technology leader. The combined company to be named L3 Harris Technologies, Inc., will be the 6th largest defense company in the U.S. and a top 10 defense company globally, with customers in over 100 countries.
October 15, 2018–Embraer has introduced a pair of new private jets named Praetor 500 and Praetor 600. The Praetor 500 can fly nearly 3,700 miles, more than 300 miles further than the Legacy 450 on which it’s based.
