December 21, 2018--The year is ending with good news on Florida's Space Coast. Three firms with a big Space Coast presence are big winners with nine defense industry contracts totaling more than $280 million announced in the timeframe of Dec. 10-17, 2018, capping what is already described as a banner year.
Harris Corp INVESTING ON THE SPACE COAST
December 10, 2018 — The good news is Harris Corporation plans to invest $125M in Florida in this fiscal year, netting additional high-paying jobs and further securing its reputation as an innovation leader.
A MERGER OF GIANTS
October 15, 2018 - Harris Corporation and L3 Technologies, Inc. have agreed to combine in an all stock merger of equals to create a global defense technology leader. The combined company to be named L3 Harris Technologies, Inc., will be the 6th largest defense company in the U.S. and a top 10 defense company globally, with customers in over 100 countries.

September 19, 2018 — Melbourne-based Harris Corp. was awarded a $500 million contract by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency to perform services on a program called HELIOS.

Sep 4, 2018 — The Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. won three government contracts on Aug. 30, 2018 for more than $1 billion total bringing work to Orlando and the Space Coast.
Cruise Business Expands
August 29, 2018 — "The decision to base the new ship on the Space Coast continues a decades-long relationship and reinforces Carnival Cruise Line’s position as Port Canaveral’s number one cruise operator," according to Port Canaveral spokesperson.
Proposed Aquarium
August 31, 2018 — Market research suggests that the aquarium could attract an average of 575,000 people a year, generate an estimated 50,688 nights a year in hotel room rentals, support 675 direct jobs, 262 spinoff jobs and $85.54 million in total economic impact on the area.
Lockheed Martin and Northrup Grumman contracts benefit our region
July 25, 2018 — Two of the biggest defense companies in the world scooped up additional contracts.
Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics Co. won a 3-year contract for $175.3 million for the U.S. Navy for development, testing and activation of 13 different F-35 component repair capabilities in support of the F-35 Lightning aircraft.

July 5, 2018 — New deals announced for contracts to be performed at Patrick Air Force Base are worth nearly $30 million.
ZEL TECHNOLOGIES won a $20 million contract with the U.S. Air Force. All of the work for the five-year contract will take place at Patrick Air Force Base and in Melbourne.
