Annual Walk, Bike & Roll May 3
May 2, 2023 – Tomorrow is the annual national event that encourages students to walk, bike or roll to school. Not only does it sound like a lot of fun, physical activity is important for a healthy lifestyle. And if you avoid a trip in the family van, it cuts your carbon footprint. Every little bit counts.
According to the website, “The first National Walk & Roll to School Day—called Walk Our Children to School Day—was held in 1997. Since then, it’s come a long way. In May 2012, the first-ever National Bike & Roll to School Day—called Bike to School Day—was celebrated across the U.S. Join families, schools and communities as they walk and bicycle to school for these events each year.”
Thousands of schools around America, in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico participate in this fun event. Brevard County has 13 schools on the list.
In Viera, Manatee Elementary School and Quest Elementary School will have students perambulating (that’s walking to you) and rolling using various methods to take themselves to school.
