Viera President Takes to the Rink to Help Conquer Cancer
November 7, 2022 – Todd Pokrywa, president of the Viera Company, is no stranger to the sport of road hockey, having honed his craft through elementary and high school. Recently, he combined this skill with a talent for fund raising, as captain of Team Viera at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament.
The tournament, held in Ontario, Canada, included 140 teams, about 1,500 players and raised $2.6 million this year. Team Viera was a top 25 fundraising team in the world’s largest road hockey tournament.
“I was proud and honored to play on Team Viera alongside Assistant Captain Taylor Accursi (most recently Buffalo Beauts Captain in the PHF), NHL Alumni and 60-goal scorer Dennis Maruk, Kendra Fisher (previously of Team Canada and now a professional speaker regarding mental health), Jillian Moffatt (Almtuna-IS Swedish ice hockey club), Steve Kanellakis (Managing Partner IDYSPACE), Len Fragomeni (Founder’s Original CEO), Stewart Busbridge (COO DRI Capital), Claude Parrell (Metro Freightliner Sales), Patrick Kerr (Science Dept Head at Loyola Secondary School), and backstopped by goaltender David Arrigo (renowned celebrity and sports artist),” said Pokrywa.
Pokrywa was one of the top 10 individual fundraisers for the event and took part in the Fundraisers vs. Celebrities game, which featured several NHL alumi atheletes and women’s pros.
“Great players, and even better people, came together for an important cause benefiting one of the top five cancer centers in the world,” said Pokrywa. “I am grateful to all of my teammates, as well as our sponsors and supporters, that made this exceptional experience possible.”
