Airport to Expand for UK Flights
April 16, 2021 – Because of Viera’s great location residents have access to three international airports, Sanford (about an hour), Orlando (about 45 min) and Melbourne (MLB) (25 min or less). MLB has big expansion plans underway.
The Melbourne airport is pumping $61 million into an expansion for a contract with TUI, the largest leisure, travel and tourism company in the world. The airport projects 150,000 visitors from the U.K. during the first year, aboard two or three daily TUI flights using Boing 787 Dreamliners. Destinations include Birmingham, Bristol, Doncaster, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Newcastle.
The airport will support the effort with a 63,000-square-foot addition, with international baggage claim space, an 8,000 sq. ft. welcome center, new passenger gate and new jet bridges capable of handling wide-body aircraft.
Of course, once you get to Viera you will never want to leave. But if you do get a hankering for fish and chips, it appears that your options have just increased.
